    Default Mounting problems :)

Two pieces of Mopani wood arrived this morning and the piece on the left stands by itself. The second piece can't stand at all. My challenge is that I am really the most mechanically challenged male on the face of the planet - at times. What do I need to make this large piece of mopani stand up - it's too heavy, really, to hang. I was thinking of using something like the hinge as can be found on a picture frame but the back of the wood is so uneven it would be hard to fit one on without it wobbling all over the place.

Plate stands has been suggested elsewhere so I may give that a try.

A plate stand sounds like an excellant idea. If you had intended on putting it in a terr, then I would have suggested just leaning it against something as Ron mentioned. (For that matter, I have seen folks use pieces like that in a terr as part of a water feature with the water flowing down its surface.) As far as too heavy to hang ... don't be too quick to dismiss that idea. Coat hanger wire can make some very strong hooks.

Some very sweet pieces of wood, btw! That larger piece on the right is simply awesome! I bought several nice pieces intending to use them as mounts. Unfortunately, I like a few of them so much that I find myself reluctant to cover them up with an orchid. Oy! (I know, I'm strange. )

Mopani is fantastic looking wood. I have a piece with a phal mounted on it and I think they both look okay!
    Cheers,
