I guess that, since all our financial circumstances are so different and diverse some have to budget more strictly. I dont have kids so I can afford to be more care free. Im also fortunate to be in employment while others struggle in a highly competitive world with business closures, redundancies. Luckily for me as a collector I can sometimes push limits where some just cannot.

Without any doubt, the most expensive orchid I ever bought was the first one and I can't remember what it was or when I bought it but that damn plant has cost me 1000's over the years.

Mind you, I have lots of enjoyment over the years and met a lot of nice people along the way.

My most expensive one is my P. Chiu Hua Dancer. I paid about $60 with shipping. It died in like 2 months. However, I got lucky and had purchased it from a great vendor. He sent me a replacement plant that had 2 growths as opposed to the single growth of the first plant. It sat and sulked for MONTHS!!! Now it is finally growing a new leaf. I would do it again for the right plant when my budget would allow.

Oh, and I completely agree with scrubber!!!!!!!!!!!

Ain't that the truth for each and every one of us! Thanks for the good belly-laugh this morning.

Bitepurrie, I don't think this is going to be a representative survey. The bargain hunters among us are proud to state our low limit, while those blessed with larger wallets and more unfettered tastes will be too polite to respond. I do always wonder who buys the $1000+ catts on auction sites--I'm sure someone here has one, but it won't be me anytime soon.

BTW, my max so far has been $40 for big Asco. Peggy Foo cross.

Mine is a kovachii seedling. I bought it a few years ago for $100 and it's still at least two years away from blooming! The good thing is it's still alive and doing well with multiple new growths.

I tend to agree with opaline, if you are financially free to spend, I have spent $750 on a 6 canes Dendrobium speciosum that gives me years of enjoyment.
