Default What Is This Growing From My Phal?

    Hello everyone,
I've thought for awhile that my phal was sending up a "normal?" spike that I'm accustomed to seeing, but this is the first time I've had one to do this. What is it and what does it mean?

    I would appreciate anyone's help,
    Vicki

It looks like a keiki to me Vicki. I believe that you'll soon have a new phalaenopsis exactly like the "mother" plant...Betty

    Default Dathen

Thanks, Dathen. It spiked and bloomed normally Feb. of last year. It's P. Diamond Beauty x P. (Sara Lee-Fortune Buddah). Here's a pic. What would have caused the change? Is this a good thing or a bad thing.....I'm guessing NOT a good thing. Something I did wrong since then?

Thanks, Betty. What will happen to the mother plant when the baby is removed...will she be ok or not? Is this a last ditch effort to save herself for some reason? (Oh, subject change: Our Encyclia Profusa isn't doing well at all. Both it and me are hanging in there, though).

Oops! I just noticed that I spelled your name wrong, Jonada. I left out the "e" in Daethan. Honest mistake. :>)

Hi Vicki is a good thing for you that you will get new keiki which is identical to the mother plant, congrats do not cut unless the the keiki has enough root and relatively has bigger leaves.

No, I think that "Mom" is doing just fine...so much so that she is cloning herself! Just take good care of both...when roots are at least two to three inches long, you can remove it and put it in it's own small pot! Congradulations to you, Vicki. Don't worry about the profusa...mine are not doing too good in this heat either...Betty
