    Unhappy Psychopsis Mendenhall "Hildos"

I have been patiently waiting for my psychopsis to bloom, it has a nice 2 foot spike. I have wanted one of these for such a long time.

This morning I discover a grasshopper has loped off the bud, at the very top. Clean cut, couldn't have done better with my clippers.

Now, is there any chance this 2 ft spike will do anything more. Is this a lost cause for this year???????????? Boo

No worries. Psychopsis Mendenhall will bloom again on the same spike. It will be some time, but it will happen. For now, deal with the grasshopper issue.

    cheers,
    BD

If you grow your plants outside, I am not sure what you can do. Maybe some type of netting - though that would probably look bad and be a big hassle. Maybe some grower who grows outside will have some ideas. If that problem was in my greenhouse, I would suggest either the catch and remove if it was one or two or to set off some type of 'bug bomb' thing to take 'em out. Good luck.

    Cheers,
    BD

Once those big yellow and red grasshoppers get past the juvenile stage...there is isn't an insecticide you can spray on them that will take them out.
