    Default Wish List

Had to say goodbye not long ago to a couple of special friends of mine Eve & Rodriguez as they now gone back home to the Phillipines. All the technical political govt politics with visas etc got too complicated for them.

Now you know how it goes when we all go our seperate ways, promises to meet up again, stay in touch etc. Its what we all say but eventually it extinguishes like a candle out of wick.

Mr postie gave me a slightly battered parcel this morning and it was obviously not english with various stamps and documents stuck to it. The sweethearts only sent me the number 1 orchid on my wish list and god knows how it made it through all the customs etc. Surely those x rays would pick up the fact its not a tshirt as stated on the box. Heres a pick of my present - Gongora Claviodora. Hope it is!!!!!! and hope it lives. Anyone have any tips for it, i dont want to let this one go and knock on heavens door for a long while.

That's what you call friends! Suggestions: clean it up real good, remove dead roots, use diluted alcohol for the leaves and pseudobulbs, mites and scale get into those folds. I use a Q-tip and scrub it on real good. Don't worry if you have only a bunch of short roots. Put it in an open basket on top of large chunks of whatever media you like since the inflorescence is pending and when you get new roots start feeding it regularly. A nice dose of love will get it to bloom (claviodora =smells like cloves) next spring.

Little acts of kindness have the biggest rewards. I applaud your friends for being so caring.

Thankyou Nenella! Will certainly post pics of the bloom although I think that with all my newbies im expecting a session of sulking after its journey and guessing this will be lengthy just to challenge my patience.

Default Irresistable! Dendro. Victoria Reginae mounted

I could not resist purchasing this orchid not just for its flowers but for the sheer excellence invested in its care by its grower to get the mount this perfect and it is beautiful. Not really a big dendrobium collector due to experience of failure with them but its worth the trouble and it seems mounted orchids suit the care I provide as opposed to pots. One thing in the UK is that we have quite a choice when it comes to selecting areas for cool loving plants. Fingers crossed!!!

Default New blooms and a couple of new additions!

New spikes matured and a reshuffle of plants to admire blooms. All hybrids, originally purchased as general noids with standard houseplant care.

The first is my Cambria who has rewarded me with 3 spikes and 1 is now in show. It does not get its general cambria care advice and flourishes in warm environment and loves growing mounted. Avoiding sun rays even in morning as the leaves suffer very easily.
