Looks like you received a PHALENOPSIS. They do NOT like direct sunlight nor too much water! Good luck with it!

I can tell you the genus-Phalaenopsis, and most probably a DTPS (Doritinopsis) as the commercial hybrids tend to be. However, to find the hybrid name would require thousands of hours of research, as there are literally thousands upon thousands of phal hybrids out there.

You may want to think of a repot too, that media looks quite clogged up. Do this after it has finished flowering, but Carefully pull the old media from the roots, and replace it with fresh bark or hydroponic pellets. They LOVE air around their roots and a free draining media. Also, pull off any older mushy roots, as these are harbourers of root rot. I would also spray with a weak liquid sulphur solution (about a third to a quarter of the manufacturers directions) once a week for about 5 weeks to ensure that no fungus sets in. Also, feed weakly, weekly with either a proper orchid fertilizer, or with a standard general fertilizer for ornamentals. I would recommend the use of a proper orchid growth booster, but I find that rose and tomato food works well too, but use tom food when it is spiking.

It's a phal, like Mike said, and it's an absolutely beautiful one! I'd keep this one healthy if I were you! There's tons of information on this forum to keep you keeping your orchids healthy!

Thank you so much! When I got it today it was in a pot with no drainage holes and it was very wet. So I took it out so it could dry out. I didn't have any media and didn't know what to get when I go shopping. The information you gave is very helpful. You answered questions that I hadn't even asked! I appreciate the time you took to send so much information.
