    Lightbulb Replacing Fluorescent Lights

Hi, I have a number of fluorescent bulbs (24) and was wondering how long other growers use them before replacing. All mine are t-15 24", I only use them from October too April then I move all my orchids on outside porchs. I have read something about changing them every season, since that is quite expensive I would like to hear what other growers do.
    THANKS HANK....

I have used T12 and T5 (currently use) fluorescents. I generally change mine out every 1-2 years. I use mine all year round. I do notice that they dim quite a bit over time.

I change mine every 12 months. They do dim considerably. I use mine year around since I keep some of my collection inside all year. With the amount of time you say that you use yours I would feel safe in changing them every two years.

I agree with Bill. What I have read is to replace every year if used year-round, but every other year otherwise. The other thing I've read is that after a year, the light output has gone down so much that it is better to replace every other one, give them a week or so to adjust, then replace the rest (versus doing it all at once). I don't think I am patient enough to follow that advice though!

Thanks for that tip Kathie! I replace mine once per year. Around the time the plants come inside for winter. I do run them all year for the 'crazy green chicken' though! And there is a noticeable difference in light output when I do change...thinking of switching to every six months.
