Nicki, if your moss is too wet, it won't be good for the minis, either. I live in a dry area, and sometimes have difficulty keeping the moss damp enough! What you might try is a smaller media and if you are concerned about it getting too dry, chopping some moss in with the media. I have some minis mounted with some moss and I find myself watering them quite often, but again, I'm in a dry area.

You can find media in a variety of sizes, even if you have to go online to find it. If it's too damp for moss for the big guys, it might be the case for the little ones, too.

I was just getting hang of the orchids I have and had to complicate it with mini's I'll look into getting some other mix to have on hand for them.

Well, if it's any consolation, Nicki, minis are just so darned cute! And you can fit a whole bunch of them in any space you can imagine!

I KNOW! When I thought I didn't have any room for more orchids I had to get some mini's and honestly didn't realize how small they were. I take them home and put them in place and then I see all the other places I can fit more!

    - especially if your minis don't require a lot of light. Then they can hide out under and between many of the others.

Holcoglossum flavescens (clay pot, some sort of bark pieces)
Encyclia mariae (plastic pot, moss growing on top of mix but not exactly sure what)
    Mediocalcar decorata (plastic pot, moss)
Aerangis (citrata x fastuosa) (net basket, moss)
I grow all three species and the parents of the hybrid. Those grow best on mount if you can provide the necessary humidity. The first three species need to be on the cool side of intermediate or cooler. The hybrid is more like an intermediate grower. Holcoglossum flavescens hates wet feet. Enc. mariae needs drier winter.
It isn't the best time to transfer them from pot culture to mounts at this time of the year. All but the Mediocalcar seem to have more active growth during the warmer months but slow down siginficantly in winter. Enjoy and good luck.

Thank you Tom. What would be an ideal humidity? I've stayed away from mounts because I don't think I could keep them happy in that area. When I purchased these I mentioned humidity could be an issue even with my humidifier.
During summer what is the cool side of intermediate, about 75 max? I did try to purchase for my conditions but afraid some info may have gotten mixed up. Either way I'm still happy with my new additions and have a new interest in the mini side of orchids.

Min. 55-60% humidity is okay for those. The Medoicalcar loves a bit higher humidity and good air movement.
75F for max day temperature is what I would call "cool side of intermediate". Can those plants handle slightly higher temperature? the answer is yes.
PS, the vendor you got your plants from(I think I know where you got your plants) does have a different definition of growing condition(temperature) posted on their website.

Thank you for the help Tom. If you have any recommendations for vendor's selling mini's feel free to PM me. If I can care for these I would like to get more.

Nicki, it's been a month and a half since your last post. What is the status of your minis?
