Naw, I do pretty well, and don't feel I restrict myself at all. Back when I first started with the 'addiction', I felt the way many here have expressed their unbridled need to keep adding yet another to the collection. As I said, my wants are very specific now. And there are a great many types of 'chids I have no interest in whatsoever. I don't pass up a plant I really want, but as I said with the price of most orchids, (not talking about supermarket Phals or Big Box rescues here)
I'm almost at the point where I'm happy with my collection and trying my best to keep them alive. (Except for the 25-30 that remain on the wish list). I know this is different than most 'collectors'. What can I say, I'm different!
    Cheers,
    Tony

No point fighting the dark side. Just surrender to it.

Ooof. Ouch, Don, it hurts when you poke holes in my illusions like that. You are highly skilled with the guilt tactics--for some reason when I read your post my mind dubs it in my mother's voice. . .

Yes, sadly, going into last fall, the only unknowns at my house were a dendrobium, two tiny mini-phals and a half-ID broken tag catt. Somehow my early big box phals all came with names and I became a label snob very early in my collecting. Midwinter, the craving got pretty strong and I slogged through some pretty contorted rationalizations to branch out into NoIDs. I'd repeat them here, but I don't want to infect you.

Bruce, does your lawn service include leaf raking? I wish the snow would fly already so I didn't have to look at them anymore.

Wait a minute ... is this a thread about how not to add orchids to my collection?? ... Where the heck am I? Help - I've fallen into the twilight zone! eeek! What was in that last drink!! ?! Am I on the right site??
haha. Yes BD, you're in the right page... But seriously, my house is gonna go KABOOM If I add 8 more orchids. Maybe a month or so you can see orchid dust floating across... lol.

My (not self-imposed) policy is that I can purchase NO orchids until we move back to the southeast. As it is, moving the plants that are 'important' will be expensive. One more and I will be forced to relocate only those that cannot be replaced...and by that, I mean replaced at any price. Threats to myself, I ignore...this, I am taking seriously!

Hey Jason - whereabouts in the southeast are you moving to? I'd love to have an OT member closer to me than Florida!

Well Maura, the goal is somewhere around Destin, FL...HOWEVER, Birmingham, which is certainly closer, is a better possibility. And I'd certainly move to ATL given the chance! The transfer is in the hands of a corporation unfortunately!

Ahah! I like Destin, but it's a bit of a drive from here, and Birmingham is okay, but Route 20 (passing Talladega) is a nightmare! I think our company should transfer you to Atlanta - for one thing, we have one of the best Orchid Conservatories in the country!

Ah, I'm in a sticky situation right now. I only have 5 orchids at the monent - at first it was because I lived with my parents they didn't put up with the space requirements. Now, I live on my own and my rent doesn't put up with the financial requirements to obtain more. I can't win! haha Though the urge is always there...I guess it's a good thing the box stores around me have been downright orchid-less (at least anything good) all year so far for some reason. 2007-2008 was the best year ever for orchids in my town for some unknown reason. It will go down in history.
