I have developed sort of a strategy this year. I buy only fragrant Catts. Each time I buy one I give away a phal or oncid or something other than a Catt. It seems to be working. At least I can justify my buying sprees by telling the "sainted hubby" that I gave away x# of chids this month. I'm waiting for him to catch on that each time I say that, I've bought more. Here's hoping he doesn't decide to count my 'chids.

If I kill one, I will buy two next time. That is my policy!

I'm really trying to limit myself. I walk outside and am sort of overwhelmed with the enormity of it all. Of course, I always want to try new plants. This forum gets me in trouble.
I've posted this before: I've told my kids, if something happens to me... your inheritance is outside in that shadehouse. Don't toss them put them on an auction site.

    Default Broke down

Ok, so I said I wasn't going to get more orchids, but you see I saw this pretty orchid about a week ago.

So, I went back on Thursday. I saw one of the leaves had been broken off and looked for a clerk to get a price on it. She said that the leaves had gotten cold and she couldn't give me a price.
I went back on Monday, and this is what I saw. All the leaves had been cut off!! I thought I just had to rescue this little gal.

I went back today and the clerk reduced the price to $5.00.
I think if I cut the inflourescence off, repot and baby her, she will come back.
    Any advice will be appreciated.
So much for not killing any more!!

This forum gets me in trouble, too, because my brain abandoned decorum when I read this and my first thought was "I hope she lets her kids know to post an obituary here so we know when the sale starts."
The more appropriate tiny corner of my brain says, Cathy, we would miss you terribly!

Let's see my orchid policy by each genus.

Catt - Never tried to grow them
Oncidium - Gets bored very easily. Enjoy one season and give it away
Masdies - Do not even try since I know for sure they do not like to sit right next to my Vandas.
Paphs - I am still trying to get them bloom. They are coming back.
Phrags - soon to be compost
Phals - If one survives one season, it is lucky.
Misc others - What are they? I cannot even pronounce the name. Why bother?
Vandas - I spray-water them every morning. They like me and I like them.

That being said, I became very picky as to what I buy.

    Never tried catts!!??
You have to! They are pretty easy. Maybe I'll send my Vandas to you, they don't bloom, otherwise they grow like crazy.
    Oops, Copying!!
Cattleyas - I love and they are fine, so good.
Oncidiums - Eh- so-so don't like much EXCEPT Onc. Twinkle.
Masdies - Very cute, would like to have more, (only 1 now)
Paphs - Pretty nice they seem to work out...
Phrags - Well if you're a person that is exceptionally rich and is willing to pay $63 dollars for baby phrag then yes...
dendros - cute fun colorful, quite nice! BUT, not very easy to grow here...
Phals - very easy growers, spiking here now!
Vandas - Nope, I like them they like me, but not to the point that they will BLOOM for me. Although one may have a spike after 3 years... happy dance!
Others - well if I see anything that is interesting then the rack in the big box stores will empty. oh-oh...
So I seem to have a bigger range than Naoki..
    Alex

I knew I forgot one. lol.

Dendros - Hmmm. Let's put this way. The BUGS love them. For some reason, everytime I get one, it gets bugs; mealy, scales, or mites.

Bulbs - Since I do not like the fact that they crawl out of the pot, I do not grow them.

Alex, You forgot Bulbs! Back to ya!
