    I know I am going to get shot for saying this but I had the same issue, alot, when I fed MSU fert. along with RO water. I now use another fert. and well water and the missing lip on my Catts. has never returned. I believe someone on this site gave me that hint - it worked.

    at the chemical comments! haha... I would guess that this 'no lip' thing happens often, but shouldn't repeat next blooming. Probably just an accident or damage to the bud when developing.
