I'm sensing a tad bit of hostility on your part when it comes to phals. The fact is I think it's bull$&*# when it comes to dyin flowers, even the mass produced ones. Carnation, roses, orchids, what ever, I see it as lying to the customer by making em think the gaudy colours are naturally created by the plant. When I put my frikking money down for a blue phal or an orange rose, it better as hell be a blue phal or orange rose next time it blooms or I gine be gettin ignant up in de place. I'm jus sayin.

For some reason my inner alarm clock says get up at 4:00 am There are way too many frogs outside for me to go on the patio or the shadehouse. So I spend about 45 minutes on the pc.

For me, I'd have to go with (to name a few):

Masdevallia - They don't look like orchids. To me, they look like any old annual you could just plunk in the ground. I just have never liked them.

Stanhopea - Flowers from the bottom? Seriously? And blooms that only last 1-2 days? No thank you. Not to mention, the blooms pretty much look like mangled flesh hanging from a stem.

Lycaste - Mostly the same reason as Masdevallia. They're just boring to me.

Bulbophyllum - Eck. I don't even know where to begin on most species here...No. I can't even look at them and think "Man, I really want one of those." Much like James Franco, these just piss me off looking at them for no other reason than me simply not liking them.

Soft cane Dendrobiums get an honorable mention here just for losing their leaves. Don't do that! It's not becoming.

Looking at my list, I definitely notice a trend of me straying away from orchids that aren't the stereotypical, giant, neon, glittery types. haha

    Y'all go!
Enjoyable thread, guy. I have to admit that I found it pretty coincidental that I'm pretty much Underwhelmed with the same group as you. I'd probably add the tremendously overrated (IMHO), FDK after dark. All that fuss over a dark purple bloom that everyone so want's to be be black, lol. And the plant itself is very unappealing to my eye. Why people plunk down 100 bucks for these little gremlins of the orchid world escapes me. I might leave some soft caned Dens off my N.G. list, but other than that, pretty much a match.
I would also classify myself as pretty much a hybrid-lover. Can't get enough of most Catts, and especially the really intricate hybrids. I love the Richard Mueller crosses and mostly anything Bepi or with B nodosa involvement!
Thanks again for a Fun thread.
    Cheers,
    Tony

Another one - Pleurothallids. No. No, no, no, no, NO. I want them OUT of Orchidaceae. They bring shame upon the Orchid world.

Not pleurothallids! They are incredible little things! Beautifullly sculpted little flowers. AND lovely foliage.
