I went out today to buy liquid seaweed...well, I bought it and also a new friend. A blue Vanda. I can't stop! I should probably BLOOM one before I buy 378 of them. But I've always wanted a big blue Vanda, so I couldn't resist. Of course it's not in flower yet.

    Mabuhay!

Vandas will always be vandas. Its in their nature to grow lots and big root system. Actually, we just have to adapt to our collection's perks. hehehee

Well I'm glad I purchased a keeper! Now, as usual, if I can only get it to bloom...

I love bag babies because you can get excellent orchids for dirt cheap (I pay 10 bucks for a rather large plant), but they've mostly never bloomed before so you have no idea how long it will be, if they're big enough, etc. Sometimes you see dried flowers in the bottom of the bag they come in so you know they've actually bloomed inside the bag (!), but that's not usually the case. And I know Vandas have to be like 73 years old before they bloom. lol So it's a waiting game of questioning, is my culture wrong, or is the plant too young?

No, quite the contrary. I have vandas bloom as teenagers all the time.

Really?? Interesting! I've always read that Vandas probably have to be more mature than any other orchid before they bloom, most references citing at least 5-6 years old.
