Default Finally got some liquid seaweed!

After hearing several stories around here about how great liquid seaweed is, I decided to buy some. I have a couple of questions though. First - it's not a substitute for general fertilizer, right? I've read that you're supposed to use it as an additive to your regular fertilizer regime.

Also, how much should I use for the orchids? The bottle says 1 oz per gallon of water every week. Is that correct?

I use seaweed extract dilutely as an additive to my regular fertilizing regimen...its said to be best as a foliar spray. I also use it as a "starter" solution for backbulbs and other rootless wonders. With the regular watering/fertilizing, I just toss in a dash. It's apparently not good to use with sphagnum moss. Organics aren't recommended to use with it at all. Seems that it causes the moss to decompose at a faster rate than with chemical ferts.Posted via Mobile Device

Thank you! I also want fish emulsion. I believe it was you that said you use it as well? How do you use it and how do you feel about it?

Liquid seaweed makes my Vandas put out new roots within literally days of application. I use 1oz per gallon weekly with my fert. I was doing it more diluted last summer and it seemed to have much less of an affect. So now I'm back to 1oz per gallon. It's expensive, so I decided to get a gallon this time because it comes out much cheaper. I use Maxicrop, but there are probably other brands that are good.

My plants love fish emulsion! I hate it! I use a product that is a combo of fish emulsion and bird poop...smells awful, of course! Also very dilute.

Both used diluted. The fish emulsion seems to work best or maybe it just stinks the most so I'm reminded of it longer. lol IT is good to rotate fertilizer on your orchids. At least I believe so.

    cheers,

If you are keeping your plants inside, Kelly, you may want to reconsider fish emulsion -- it reeks. Outside where you don't have to smell it might be wiser. (Though it could make your place very popular with the local feline population.)

Haha! Well they're all outside for the summer and early fall, so I'll use it for the time being. I have read from a website that it's very easy to burn roots with fish emulsion (even though the bottle says "WON'T BURN!" in bold letters) due to a high Nitrogen concentration...true? Should I use it with my regular fertilizer or does it completely replace it as its own fertilizer?

I use mine in conjunction with my normal ferts. Of course, I always fertilize VERY sparingly. With the fishy stuff, I use such a small amount that it's not terribly smelly and can be used indoors.

About how much would say you use, Jason? Per gallon etc.
