    Default Tags with a date?

What does it mean when you a buy a orchid whose tag has a date? Is that the de-flasking date? The date it was last repotted? My recent Vanda says "6/12/09".

Probably means nothing to anyone other than the person who wrote it. In my case, it would be my wife's birthday to help me remember the date and avoid domestic stress.

It's not written, per say. It was a bag "baby" (not really a baby) it's printed on the tag.

I have these dates on my store bought Phals, my guess is that's the date the nursery grew it from a flask.

I used dates on our tags to know the repotting date. It is pretty common to print the date on the tag so you know when the orchid was first potted up. It makes it easier for routine maintenance.

Obviously, can't be 100% sure why the nursery uses the dating for BUT, as Bruce mentioned, it is commonly used by hobbyists and some growers to keep track of when it was last repotted.

Ditto to all of the above. For me date = last repotted. I would guess that a commercial tag with a printed date would indicate when the plant was potted/basketed or when it was received from their supplier, if any.

I use the dates for repotting as well. Learned that from a big nursery awhile back...makes remembering when you last potted easier.
