Not a big vanda fan, myself. Oh there are some that do have eye catching flowers, but overall, they don't do much for me. Doesn't help their case, either, with the amount of space most of them require. Just not practical for the indoor grower with dry air and limited space. But to each their own.

I find them imposing, ocassionally troublesome, and throughly fascinating..................As a a teennager in Florida I vividly remember hybrids the like of which I can't find any more. This is not to say some of the newer hybrids or species aren't beautiful and/or stunning, but it makes me think by color and patterns, etc. the diversity in Vanda blooms can be quite amazing. More than many people know. AL

I didn't start growing vandas until I retired because they're high maintenance orchids. They're not for everyone because they take up lots of space, require strong light and need to be watered and fertilized often. I originally bought an ascodenda to have some color during the summer when my catts and phals aren't blooming. That first plant bloomed four times that first year and had bright neon colored flowers. I was hooked. I have lots of ascocendas and vascostylis now and they produce plenty of bright summer flowers.

if it wasnt for the inconsistency streak in me that seems to run a mile wide... i would have as many vandas as i could... i would replace some people i love with vandas... thanks to my watering system and timer, im well on my way to doing just that!!!

Once I get my misting/watering system setup I may give it a try. Don't know if misting would be enough during the time I am traveling. Jeff I hope I don't have to retire before I can get one!

I love the colors/markings on many, find having one that actually wants full subtropical sun a blessing, and some can be almost everblooming, like my Ascda. Dong Tarn 'Red'- I swear that thing doesn't have an off button and is the most vibrant blood red.

Those are pretty, I will keep that one in mind when I purchase my first Vanda.

Now that I am installing my misting system I may get one fairly soon. I am going to have dual lines, one to water and one to mist so when I travel It can still get watered a couple times a day.
