    Default My Phal experiment...

This Phal was last in bloom at the beginning of this year and has grown 2 new leaves. For the last 3 weeks everynight I moved it from the growing tent to an unheated garage where the night time temp drops to around 10celcius and during the day i moved it back to the growing tent where the temperature is 19celcius+ . After 3 weeks I do not move it anymore because I noticed a swelling at the leaf base and today discovered this.

So I guess this is a good technique to get the Phal to spike. However there was also another Phal which endured the same treatment and has still not show signs of spike perhaps that one is a summer bloomer? Or just plain stubborn

Cool! Mine doesn't seem to care, as it's been getting about a 30 degree temperature drop day/night and it hasn't made a new spike yet. But maybe it just doesn't want to flower again, as it just dropped its flowers about a month ago. It started that spike around october and I was hoping for it to develop two...maybe on it's next flowering. *fingers crossed*

But I know a lot of florists and the like use this technique to force Phals into spike before their blooming season. I think mine's a late winter/early spring bloomer (spike starting in the fall) and it won't have it any other way. lol
