Default To repot or not to repot

    Hello everyone!
My sister and I just purchased mini phals which were potted in sphagnum. They are in bloom but I really want to repot them to avoid root rot. Should I? Any advice would be helpful. I heard Phals are really quite resilient to repotting.

If repotting is what you really want to do, then I think you should. Phals don't seem to mind it and they often continue to bloom after being repotted. When I repot a phal in bloom, I don't do any root trimming. I just try to remove most of the old material and gently repot it in new medium. Don't overpot, keep it in the smallest pot that the roots will comfortably fit in. Good luck.

Thanks!! I repotted my mini phal in bark mixture without any root trimming. Ill wait a few days (or even a week) to repot my sister's orchid just in case our orchids are sensitive and drop their buds/flowers. I just like to sleep at night knowing my orchids are sleeping in a nice mix.

I just got my first phal and I repotted it from Spagh to bark. I did not trim roots just cleaned all the spagh away. the orchid has not skipped a beat.

Too bad grocery stores don't have "frequent orchid buyer" cards!!

I know, right! I also ordered some more Schomburgkia online that should be here Friday or Saturday. So went to the sprinkler store to get supplies to expand my misting system to the place they will be hung on my deck! I have got to stop this madness! LOL
