Mine didn't like me...I think my humidity was too low. It grew like crazy, but looked like absolute crap. I hope yours does well...they smell amazingly wonderful!

Well, I don't tend to do well with the "moist" orchids. Oncidium alliance/intergenerics, Miltoniopsis etc. I don't know why...they stay moist, but not wet. But they just hate me. I've never gotten a good watering regimen down for the types that like water and have thinner roots.

If you have the time to do it, the best thing to do is use the same media that you would on a Catt but water more often. They seem to want just as much drainage, but much more water...ahhhhh, the balancing act! That's our headache!

I have a Zygo. and it is an easy plant to grow. Put it in sphag -or as I have mine in a peat and bark based orchid mix which retains moisture. I had one many years ago which smelt absolutely wonderful!! I got rid of it though but I bought another one a few months back, a Barbel Holm. It looks really pretty and I am hoping that it smells just as good. She is a young plant but I can see that she has already spiked once. When the next pbulb matures hopefully I'll be able to tell what the smell is like. Keep it on the moist side, just do the finger test unless you can see any roots showing green or white. That is how I water mine, I can see several roots on top of the medium when they are green I don't water but as soon as they have turned white I water! Works everytime

I've not had much luck with Zygo orchids. I think I didn't water the ones I had enough. So now, I just don't grow any. Good luck with your new orchid!!

    cheers,

Look at it this way, fussing over this one will help you to leave the vanda alone to do it's bidness in peace.

mine grow indoors, on a humidty tray, and are watered often enough that they never really dry out. They do well for me; good luck with yours!

One of my friends is obsessed with trying to resurrect his zygos, always reporting at OS about the latest attempt the poor creatures are making to keiki or put out new growth. I convinced him to get a new one once when we were at a show, so he could enjoy one and take the pressure off the rehabs. We asked the vendor what was the biggest mistake people make with them and she said, unequivocally, "never mist them because it is impossible to get the leaf junction to dry.". My friend is a dedicated mister, always futzing with his squirt bottle. He grows indoors so I think it's going to be a trick keeping his humidity high enough to succeed with zygos.

    Good luck with yours.

So far I've had the most success with my zygos. I don't have good luck with onc types either - but I must be doing something the zygos like. Best of luck with yours! You'll love it once it blooms

I should add I use a small humidifier and keep the regularly potted one on a humidity tray. The other is in s/h (it came to me that way)
