    Default Brassavola cucullata seedlings

Hello! Any orchids experts out there know how best to take care of B. cucullata seedlings? I received them in the mail bareroot and I've potted them into a small clay pot with a very coarse mix of bark, charcoal, and LECA. they're in bright shade and get a bit of evening sun. neither seedling had a large root system and no root growth. how could i stimulate that? should i move them inside to a window where temps are more moderate (outdoors it's high 90's day low 70's night)?

I don't have that species, but I understand it to take standard Brassavola care. So I would mount it. You may do better with potted, I just prefer mounted for plants that like to be watered often and dry out quickly. Good luck!

I haven't tried brassavola seedlings and not that particular species but I have a nodosa and 'Little Stars', both bare-root mounted and have other seedlings. If I had seedlings of brassavola, I would likely mount them with a thin layer of fresh moss and provide plenty of humidity, water once a day. The moss should stimulate root growth and, being mounted, they aren't likely to succumb to black rot at a later point. I've heard that watering with kelp extract products (?) also help Stimulate root growth but have never tried it. Hope this helps!

I've never done them from seedlings, but I can confirm that Brassavola reacts well to kelp and KLN with vigorous root growth. I've applied it in the form of a misting and a 5 minute dip, and both produced results in both mature and recently divided plants. Hope this helps...Mike
