LOL!! Thanks Patty! That sounds like a fine idea. Perhaps giving this little guy a big brother will give him some incentive to bloom faster! Hehee...at least that's how I'll justify the purchase in my own mind anyway.

i vote bum deal. the plant will live and all, but it will take some time to really be a strong bloomer. you're lucky about the roots, i've gotten a lot of oncidiums on an auction site that are bare-root, except i think the seller thought bare-root means no roots at all. but even all of those have lived. oncidiums are pretty tough. i would get another one blooming sized. you can aways tell yourself you paid full for the cattleya and only 2$ for the sharry baby.

also, that spot looks like sunburn, it seems dry. but if it seems wet looking in person, it could be fungus. could also be a fungus spot that dried up at some point, but keep an eye on it. sharry baby can take some sun, but still does sunburn, and little tiny black freckles are normal in very bright light for this orchid. i notice my oncidiums can get a fungus spot like that if the have an injury and then are sprayed too much. when i scratch or bend a leaf, i am careful not to mist for a few days.
