    Default NOID Cattleya

a very old cattleya orchid ...i think its a species or a primary hybrid...this one flowered from a pb growing at the bottom of the hanging pot....so the initial pot is now a mount where the rhizome creeps uncontrollably...dont think ill ever repot....I know Amey knows a lot about catts. hope she shares some insight into identification

    Hi
Can't really tell for sure because of the lighting in your Pics. Have a look at Catt. Portia on the Internet and see how it compares to your plant.
    Good Luck

The way the plant has totally outgrown its pot and the pseudobulbs crawl down and all the roots makes it look like a vine-like plant!

Angela i think it has a good chance of being Portia or even the species bowringiana which is a parent of Portia..thanks for the right directions

That is a very beautiful bowringiana hybrid. The huge pseudobulbs and darkly colored magenta lips and floriferous nature are all telltale signs of bowringiana. According to my opinion it is Cattlianthe Porcia (not Portia) or a Porcia hybrid. Porcia is a hybrid of Bowringiana and Cattleya Armstrongiae. Cattlianthe little Susie, Molly Tyler etc are all closely related and similar looking hybrids with a lot of Guarianthe bowringiana influence.
