    Default Phal " Hsinying Dobby ' x P. Carribean Sunset ' Golden Star '

Score this cute mini for $25 at the local show today. Along with a good chat to a very experienced Phal grower whom gave me some good insight on bud blast i now feel more at ease that i'm not doing something wrong with my culture. BTW this Phal is heavely scented like light Chanel perfume!Name: 041_2.JPG

Very pretty and lots of blooms for such a small plant. Could you share with us what you learned about bud blast.

Hay Tucker sure hope i can explain it as good as she ( the grower) did. I explained to her that my windowsill set up in a grow tent , i have fans and humidifer running. YET I still get the occasional bud blast on my Phals even though I have not moved them or change anything in the culture.
Straight away she said it is the temperature. At this time of the year "Spring" the temps can vary a lot from one day to the next. As the bud develops in its early stages on that PARTICULAR day. If the temperature is even a degree or two above or below it's tolerance then the bud will blast and the blast will be more obvious in the next days to come. So if you see a bud that has blasted it is not from that day. That is why some of my buds blast and some don't because the ones that bloom are from when it was developing the temps were constant. Phals are comfortable in 19 - 25 celcius however are also tolerant of 5 degrees on either side. THE point is if say today the maximum temp was 30 celcius in my grow tent then the bud developing today can only tolerate a low of 20 celcius that night any lower the bud will blast. The temperature difference cannot be that wide. Hope this has made sense and helped it sure did for me.
