Well, while out on a jaunt with my adoptive sister in Portland the other day I fell in love....with an orchid, which now graces my living room. It is a Brasia "Spider's Gold"...now, I realize "Spider's Gold" is the grex name, would anyone happen to know the taxonomic name for it? I tried looking it up, and all I could find were crosses that included the Brasia "Spider's Gold", but nothing that mentioned what the latin form of the orchid is.

I attached a photo (not the best mind you), the flowers are around 8" maximum height.

    Aaron, nice plant!

Since it's a hybrid, it's not going to have a latin species name. The grex name, Spider's Gold, is all you're going to get!

However, these are the parents that made up the grex, back down to the original species in latin:

Spider's Gold = Brs. Arania Verde X Brs. arcuigera (pollen parent is a species)

Brs. Arania Verde = Brs. Rex X Brs. gireoudiana

Brs. Rex = Brs. verrucosa X Brs. gireoudiana.

So there you have it, the lineage back down to the species that made up the hybrids that made up Spider's Gold.

    Default Spider's Gold

I bow before your great knowledge...thanks! Also, I forgot to mention, right now I have at least one new spike on the plant that should (if all goes well) bloom

lol Thanks Aaron, though as much as I'd like to take credit, it's not my own knowledge, it's the miracle of the Wildcatt database system.... (Surely Yoda looked things up too, didn't he???)
