Yeah, my husband tends to think i'm borderline mental when I come in misty eyed. But hey...when a plant was near death and now is blooming it's a "moment" for us orchid nuts. Oh well i'm a girl...I can cry over a good hallmark commercial if you catch me in the right mood.

I totally get this. No matter how long I have been growing orchids - when I get a happy surprise like your phal spike - it makes it all worth it over and over again. Congratulations on your good orchid care and growing!!

    Cheers,
    BD

I wish I could tell you how much time I spend just staring at all my plants and checking around and under their leaves for signs of new spikes, growth, whatever! LOL But I have to say the most emotional I got over an orchid was when a Sharry Baby I ordered online showed up at my door, and it was HUGE. The pseudobulbs were practically as big as my hands. I was just amazed. I sat there, dumbfounded, just gaping at it, then reverently picking it up and gently caressing the gorgeous foliage. It had a humungous spike covered in buds, and when I saw that the grower had secured the spike with sparkly little dragonfly clips, that's when I lost it. I cried. Over sparkly dragonfly clips. YEP. For some reason those little dragonflies symbolized all the joy that orchids can bring. It's like the plant was saying, "Hi there! It's so nice to meet you! I'm so happy to be here!" I would have given it a huge hug, but I didn't want to crush it! LOL

It's called personification when you look at a orchid this way, but no one can prove your wrong in how a plant actually reacts to you, so I say my power too Ya! AL

Can't say I've ever gotten "misty" over a plant. Have experienced a great deal of excitement over a first time bloomer though. So can't say you're totally nuts (just a little crazed ... but aren't we all? )

I've never gotten misty over an orchid, but often get that OMG I'm gonna pee my pants feeling when I see a bloom spike or buds forming
