    Question Sharry Baby not fragrant?

Okay, one thing to tell you all, if you accidently happen to break off a whole pbulb off an orchid except for a stump on the bottom, it can still spike a pretty normal spike with plenty of flowers.

Several flowers were half-open on August 31st, yesterday they were pretty much open, and today, well, even more open. The problem is that I don't smell anything! It's been two days and I don't smell anything at all. No smell. I might as well try to smell plain paper or glass if I want to get the level of fragrance my Sharry Baby is giving out. I'm quite sure my nose works, and last time the plant bloomed, I remembered extreme fragrance at the beginning of flowering.

Am I just being impatient or is something wrong with the flowers or what?

I don't think so at all, There is something wrong with this orchid. I know when mine blooms you can't get within three five feet without the smell of sugar.

I've got a couple just going out of bloom. The smell on them is always a lot stronger when light is hitting them, especially early in the morning. At other times of day I can walk by and not smell anything at all. Try putting the plant where the flower spike will get a little sun for 5-10 minutes in the morning, and see if the smell doesn't start popping out then.

Default time of day DOES matter

Mine smell the strongest in late afternoon. Your particular nose receptors, the temperature and humidity do play a part in whether or not you will be able to smell her. Also, it usually takes a couple of days after the initial opening to get the full nose so to speak of the plant.

However, if you don't have the right nose resceptors, or aren't home at the right time, you will only get whiffs if that.

    Thanks, everyone .

I did get a bit of smell this morning (but I had to stick my nose into the flower to get the full scent)...last time I just walked into the room and there was the smell. And then this afternoon the smell went down to zero. And I'll give it some sun and wait to see if it starts smelling.

Just curious, since temp and humidity have effects, then what is the "right" temp and humidity? For my onc, it's about 80 degrees and around 50% humidity. Is that ok?

Today the scent is back in the morning but I wish it's stronger.
