Whaaaaaaat? What happens to the world nowadays, since when a bunch of old ladies that are there because it's posh are deciding about REAL science? Science is that thing, ya know, with ppl in white coats spending endless hours working with stinky stuff, doing PCRs and western blotts and what not and looking at things in uv light. Science should be left to academics that are good at it. Systematics works perfectlly, I really don't get it. I mean...even I can spot the differences and I am not a botanist. Vandas my bum

Which brings me to once again reiterate my stance ... I have ceased to care what the bozos at Kew say.

And I'll call mine all phrags or mazzies depending on size
It's a matter of number of still active neurons, ya know, we obviously have more and we are not that easily confused by names that have more then 5 letters (and more then five diffrent names). It's age, we ought to be nice about it...send them generics and send them to bed with a Barbara Cartland

Wow! I now own quite a few more vandas. Next it will be the angraecums and aerathes. Have they changed aerides, yet? There are so many with the vanda form! I am not going to change any tags. Who knows when the name will change again?

I was going to try to be more mature about this change than I was about the sudden disappearance of laelia and odontoglossum, but seriously! I'm slowly gaining success with vandaceous types and one of my benchmarks for whether I can grow and bloom it has been that "asco----" tag. To me there is a clear enough difference in how they grow that a separate name makes sense. Same with odontoglossum--they consistently shrivel and pout at my place.

Pretty soon they're going to decide their isn't enough genetic difference in humans and reclassify us all as chimpanzees. That going to make dating really complicated for me.

Who the do you think is doing the science? We just happen to be living in an inconvenient time when the systematics (the standards by which species and genera are differentiated) are changing from morpholoy (the form and structure of plants) to genetics and genome analysis. What we do is horticulture, not science, so if the science is inconvenient for us, I really don't think the scientists will lose any sleep.

Don't shoot the messanger, I can't believe it either. I won't be in a hurry to change labels. I have on my Catts as thats reasonable easy with only with only 500 plants. I can't see any reason to change labels "unless" judges require it. If they do, tell them to #%&%$% as the current name is still valid but as a synonym.
