We deflask into a bath of fungicide to stave off problems from the change. It has not been an issue for us. Mostly we have paph and cattleya seedlings.

    cheers,
    BD

I can't give an answer, but I'm trying to get up the courage to get a flask so thank you for asking any questions about the process!

Since this post attracted 2 replies, Thanks BD & pipsxlch, I'll just put in the point of my question.
Why use a fungicide on plants that are sterile anyway ? If they weren't, the flask would be full of a blue/green muck.
I used to do as you do BD but the last 10 flasks I done, all Catts, I haven't used a drop of fungicide and the only losses were the tiny, almost corms with roots that wouldn't have grown anyway. A friend of mine deflasks a lot of plants & uses some sort of product that is supposed to reduce the shock factor. He pays $100+ for it and doesn't do any better than me using nothing. Something to ponder. I do use a stimulant on the plants a day or two after deflasking but never a fungicide.

I don't know that I agree with it, but had heard the argument that the seedlings, having been in a sterile environment, have no built-up resistance to attack by pathogens, and the use of a systemic fungicide can "hold them over" until they develop some.

Don't forget that the environment you bring them into is anything but sterile...

I know what you mean Ray, I used to fungicide everything out of flask & had losses, the recent flasks as noted, no fungicide, no losses other than those that wouldn't have survived anyway.
