    Default most thirsty orchids

Seems like oncidiums take the most water of any of my 'chids. Also cymbidiums are very thirsty. Anyone else have some serious drinkers out there?

y'all are so nortie derailing Cinder's thread.. poor cinderella... hehehe

I'm with you on the oncidium... initially I thought it was because they get more sun, but my dendrobes are next to it and the oncidium still dries out faster than the dends.

    cheers

Default ok, now that my Phals and I are sober...

Out of the eight or so that I have, my Oncidiums are my thirstiest ever...but I think that is due to the fact that they are in fairly rough shape. The main root masshas since died, so for the past two months they stayed in a "plastic lung" (sphag'n'bag) until they developed sufficient roots to take up water. The old growths didn't really put on any roots (but new tips showed up), but the new leads HAVE put out quite a bit. Now they are sucking up water like mad.

ok...now to pop some Tylenol and coffe and see if I can get rid of this headache.

Hmmm it's so hot here everyone gets a misting every day. They seem to like it that way. And They get a drink on one of my days off.

As far as the headache, ATester, take a vitamin when you come back from going out you'll have less of a headache in the morning... at least it works for me and joe.

    Phrags for me.
I suppose it depends on a lot on your growing area how much water a particular plant will use.

Here I've never really measured to see. Plus, I try to pot everything in mediums that hold more or less water depending on the needs of the plant so that everything can get watered on the same day. Otherwise it becomes a logistical nightmare, trying to figure out who's dried off, who needs more, etc..

If I had to choose, though, I think I'd have to go with Steve on the phrags. When they're in active growth and it's sumertime, they can just suck the water down.
