Great going! You don't hang about; wish I could say as much about myself! At first I didn't want to have anything to do with sticks... which is partly why I still don't stake unless I absolutely have to... but standard phals, not to mention the large ones, simply have to be supported: when they get good and happy they throw up huge branched spikes heavy with dozens of blooms.

BUT I still dream of one day having everything hangin' free: mounted on vast branches and logs festooned with epiphytes in a conservatory at least four times the size of my present one. Well: I MIGHT win the lottery one day, you never know! Why, I may even start PLAYING the lottery... that would kinda help, maybe..? )

An update on my mini-phal spike! Spike growth started Nov 25th, seven weeks in and I can see at least 4-5 buds starting. Can't wait to see the final result!

An update, the first of the buds opened! It was trying to spite me and open facing backwards but after a good talking to it sorted itself out.

Very nice indeed! Mini-phals are hard to beat for elegance and variety and shapeliness; AND they tend to throw up spike after spike and last for ever... and you can get a nice collection in a small space.

(Now all someone needs to do is try to cross some fragrant genes into them from the one or two naturally fragrant phal species... wow- I'd be the first in line to buy some of those crosses!)

Am update on this little guy, he finished with a whopping TEN blooms! When I bought him he had three blooming spikes, this year he decided to put all his energy into just one. I think he looks so cute, a tiny plant with a big ball of blooms.
