Default Ever wake up and ...

decide you do not want a particular type of orchid anymore? I did this morning! I woke up thinking I no longer wanted to deal with my 7 Vanda types. I've spent all day trying to decide if I should donate them to the Houston Orchid Society to auction. Tonight i was giving them a bit of water and thought, "They are not so bad"! lolol I wonder what I will wake up thinking tomorrow!

Usually I just wake up, see another new or interesting orchid posted on OrchidTalk and add it to my wishlist.

    cheers,

Nope I haven't had that problem before, but I do find myself thinking that I need to put an add-on or just build a new bigger shadehouse for my orchids. A 10x10 just isn't cutting it anymore for 130 to 140 orchids plus all of my cactus and other propagations that I have in there, I can barely walk in there anymore!

There are times I lose interest in particular plants. For a number of years I had no phals in my dwelling. I had gotten bored with them and traded them all away. Now there are a few that have piqued my interest anew (mainly species), though I do not foresee ever getting swept up in a phal craze ever again. Too many other orchids I find more pleasing.

hahaha, I think that because it is cold I have to tend to the Vandas more than the others and it is sorta of becoming a pain. I am sure If I make it through winter I will be ok with them again. Here is hoping!

Yes ; I started weith a mixed lot, then specialised in cymbidiums and what used to be called odonts ( Onc. alexanderae hybrids). A dozen years down the line ,after selling my first collection because my work took me to a different country to live, I came back, started again, and had one greenhouse for paphs, the other for odonts. Later on I added a third for plurothallids, especially masdevallias, and ten years later sold all of them to free a house for vandas, and sao it goes on... ( oh, I forgot to mention the pleione collection in cold frames - they like it cold - all long gone, and the time I tried my hand at growing disas in an artificial stream running along my greenhouse - which went after amazingly we had a heat wave, and they got boiled to death - an exaggeration of course, but they don't like hot water . Nowadays I have one paph bench, one cattleya bench, one oncidium bench, one bulbos.phaius/miscellaneous bench, amd seven or eight lines of hanging plants which accounts for the vandas, intergeneric vandaceous things, plants of all kinds grown on mounts and dendrobes.

I still think i want to give the Vandas away. I don't want a hobby to start to feel like a job and right now they are (Vandas) feeling like a job. We'll see, my mind changes like the wind changes direction!
