South Florida people love palms, especially rare palms. I've seen yards that are a mere postage stamp size with 20 - 30 - 50 large rare palms.

One of the favorite (of my plants) homemade mounts I've ever used is palmetto bark. I've also mounted onto live palms, and the orchids throve.

Since I haven't managed to talk my husband into helping me cut down and section a large dead palmetto in the back of this property yet, I'm going to try a small queen palm I got ahold of. The texture isn't quite is rough, but I got my mom a little nodosa to give me for Christmas, and it's begging for a mount. See how it works.

I've used palm boots as well. Somewhere on the forum are some of my photos of Catt types on queen palm boots.

It's true I've never seen any orchids growing on tree ferns in the wild; come to think of it, tree fern trunks are nearly always devoid of epiphytes and climbers. Very rarely do we see orchids or epiphytes growing on palm trees - the only exception being the oil palm tree which is normally festooned with ferns and orchids.Occasionally we see the odd Den crumenatum growing in isolation half way up a 70 ft tall coconut palm.
