Question Can someone re-create a hybrid based on information I found?

    Hello,
Recently, while doing a check on how I'm being found online, to my most pleasant surprise I found a page of the International Orchid Register that mentioned a phalaenopsis hybrid named after myself back in 1984. I was a young girl at the time living in Singapore, and my parents were friends with Mr David Lim. This hybrid, Helen Stroebel (now you know my name as well :-)) was named after me as a gift.

    The link:
The International Orchid Register / RHS Gardening

For years I'd been trying to track down more information or pictures of the flower. Unfortunately we don't have any contact details anymore for the Lim family, nor do I have any old pictures on record. At the same time, I grew up to be quite an orchid enthusiast; I even specially had my bridal bouquet filled with orchids to acknowledge this and my Asian roots.

So you can imagine that finding out that 'my' flower has actually been officially registered was a complete joy to find out. But now...now I want to find out if anyone out there can help in re-creating this hybrid based on the information provided on the register's page. As I have no idea how it works, I'm hoping that someone here can reach out and explain. It would be absolutely amazing if I could be reunited with my namesake flower, and my gratitude is huge for whomever can help. Thank you :-)

I am sure recreating this cross would not be a problem. According to the RHS register this is Phal Pin Up Girl x javanica . The problem is trying to find Phal Pin Up Girl ; javanica would be quite easy to obtain. Have you tried to contact the Singapore Botanic Gardens or the Orchid Society of South East Asia ( OSSEA ) . They might be able to help.

Dear Cattan, many thanks for your advice! You know the silly thing is that I actually visited the National Orchid Garden @Singapore Botanical Gardens just in January, I always go there when back in Singapore (I live in The Netherlands now) to enjoy the great memories of going there as a child. Will definitely contact them . Next step would then be to find help in making the actual cross, but I'm sure there are enough kind breeders out there willing to help. Thanks again!

I would love to see a picture of it if you ever find one or are able to make a cross...what a nice story.

Yew is correct in that it could easily be recreated if one could find Phal Pin Up Girls but finding that would be as difficult if not more difficult than finding Phal Helen Stroebel

I found the lineage, I will send you the link for your "Helen Stroebel". This is very exciting to know someone who is honored with an orchid name. Wish it had a picture, but this may help you on your way

i tried to PM you but your settings may be set to not accept messages?

Thanks again everyone, and yes of course if this leads to any old pictures or a new flower I'd be thrilled to share it with you. In any event it's lovely to find such an active orchid community, I hope to learn loads from you!
@Katherine: apparently I need to make a few more posts before PM's are enabled. Hope to get to enough posts soon :-) Many thanks in advance for finding the lineage, am very curious!

Wow thanks Ron-NY for looking :-) I saw another forum member posted the lineage as well, it is indeed long and complicated. But I've now also sent out the message to the National Orchid Center in Singapore so fingers crossed. It even appears as if my parent's old friend is attached to them in some way, so who knows. Will continue the research (and won't forget to enjoy orchids in general )
