Question care for Onc. Mendenhall Hildos

    Hi All
I could use some advice on care for a new Orchid, a Onc. Mendenhall Hildos. It has lovely leaves and I understand that they are very slow bloomers, although the seller said it was mature ard ready to bloom.

I don't really like the way it's potted. Apparently the growers use, what looks to me like some kind of volcanic rock

in pots that have a reservoir at the bottom of the pot.
I have no other orchids that are in this type of medium and have no experience with this orchid or the medium it's in.
I'd like to repot it unless this is the standard way of potting this orchid variety.
Thanks in advance for your help!

It it is adapted to the semi hydroponic culture, leave it there. The roots that are adapted for S/H won't do well in standard medium. Light: 1800-2500 fc, medium to bright light. It likes it humid with warm days and cooler nights.

it has been my experience that they don't like their roots disturbed even with repotting. They sulk for a long time and have known people to lose them after repotting.

Tag should read Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos' FCC/AOS

Starr...The genus Psychopis was an Oncidium at one time and was moved to it's own genus. Although you label says Oncidium, it is now classified as a Psychopsis.

    Default new title

I see! I'll write that new name/classification on the tag and on the label on the pot. I have one of those handy little gadgets that print out tags and labels snd I always make one for each plant I but with the tag info and the date I bought it and also the date I repot them as well. So this one will get a title change.
    Thanks again
