wanted to also ask about the roots of the above dendrobium that I posted three pics of, all the potting medium which is coconut husks, stone and charcoal is covered in a heavy root system that seems to be trying to get to other places to attach themselves, should I repot into a larger pot when it is finished flowering, and should it be placed into a clay pot instead, I'd be glad if someone could help with this answer, it seemed to have done very well in the wire basket but I had read that they like a close fitting growing area.

I think whatever they grow well in for you is how you should grow them. In my experience dendrobiums like to be tightly potted and in a free draining mix that allows them to dry out between waterings.

    good luck!

    cheers,

could anyone please tell me how long the flowers on this plant are supposed to last?? I am in mourning right now the flowers are wilting away and it is not for lack of water, I do so about once a week, I also took it out of the pot and took out any spag or coconut fibre that was in there and it was nothing to talk about really, repotted it with just the stones, coals and some coconut chips the plant looks fine but the three flowers have wilted and well the second spike of two flowers is looking ok so far and the roots are really health none were rotten. I have saved a phal by taking it out of the spag to keep it from dying of while there are flowers and it is still like that and looks healthy it's been about a month now since.

ll flowers fade eventually. But I would not have re-potted it until it was finished blooming. Now it has yo adjust to the new medium, plus hold the flowers. You are asking for a lot of energy in 2 places.
