    I would say it looks like a root, normally spikes have a tendency to pop out between the leaves...

    Definately it's a root. I spotted a greener tip encircling the tube. It's the tip of the root. For the keiki, usually the surface isn't smooth.

    Be interesting to see who is correct. It doesn't look like a root to me. I'd lean toward spike or keiki.

    From the first picture I'd have said 'root', but now I'm not so sure. Keep us posted, please.

    Agree with Carreno. Root tends to grown downward, this one tends to grow upward. Confusing.
