Default Coir and Coconut fiber chunks

I purchased a block of 3x rinsed Coir, and rinsed it 3x again. Do I need to rinse it more before I amend it with epsom salts?

And do I treat the Chunks in the same way?

There is such variability among coconut product sources, it's really hard to give a general answer. A TDS or EC meter would be a great help.

I'd say "yes" to your chunks question, as if it's from the same original source, being of a much lower surface/area ratio than the finer material means it won't extract as rapidly.

So am I hearing you say that all coconut mix should be rinsed before usage? Do not use straight from the bag? I do not use coconut but this would be valuable information if I ever decide to start.

Yes, even though a good coconut product is rinsed, there is still salt in it, which needs to be rinsed. Then after it is properly rinsed you soak it in epsom salts and rinse it again. It is a process. and you use the coconut product moist when mixing your medium. i have a very good, lengthy artucle if you would like the link.
