Default Empty flower sheaths Blc. Sanyung Ruby

This plant, 'Grand Dragon', just flowered spectacularly with heavy all-day perfume...absolutely beautiful blossoms that lasted 2 months. Does anyone know why its last sheath it put out is empty?

I don't, but I'd be curious to learn why they do that sometimes. I have a Catt now that I think has an empty sheath and another putting a couple of sheaths out that are just started so I'm hoping it'll bloom.

My Blc. Sanyung Ruby(different to yours) will sometimes have empty sheaths if the plant is busy doing something else(new roots/pseudo bulbs etc) , good light whilst the sheaths are forming & until they fill seems to be an important factor.

Well, it has not only new roots but new top growth...maybe it was just "over" blooming and wanted more food before it could perform! Thanks for the confirmation that this is not unusual.
