    Default soft water + RO

Hi, quick question. I have a soft water filtration system that is potassium based (not sodium) and and RO system behind it. Wondering if this is bad for orchids or not. House and outdoor plants respond well to the soft water, the potassium doesn't bother them at all but I am hesitant to use it on orchids. As it is, I use the tap water at the main for my orchids.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
what would be the TDS of water from the softener?. My suggestion would be to check the purity of the water through a testing kit to ascertain the TDS levels or may be get water checked by a lab for composition.

I absolutely agree that the TDS is the most critical aspect, but if you are using KCl, the chlorides in the water can be an issue, as well.

However, if you're running it through an RO system, 95% (more or less) is removed anyway.

I'm not really certain the TDS levels since I've never checked that, I just know that my house plants seem to not mind the potassium additive. Is this something that can be done without getting too expensive? I've been told by the nursery that the potassium filtration system will not harm orchids, in fact that some plants benefit from it. I was hoping maybe someone had a similar setup that could offer advice. Worst case scenario I try it out and see how he plant responds. Thanks for your advice, I will look into getting a water testing kit.

    Hi,

Would suggest you use only the RO water. potassium treated water has very high TDS and as Ray said it could be Potassium chloride and could be harmful
