    Question 5 HUGE questions- HELP

Well I still haven't received my babies yet so I'm in good shape so far. Here is what is coming...
Orchid Plant Phalaenopsis Phal LM3 P I-Hsin Sunflower
Orchid Plant Phalaenopsis Phal LM1 Taisuco Windian X
Orchid Plant Cattleya C229A POT Thi-ti 'Chanchai Gold'
Orchid Plant Cattleya C240A POT Haw Yuan Gold
Orchid Plant Cattleya C241A BC Yellow Bird
Orchid Plant Cattleya C239A LC Netrasiri Waxy

Thank you Tim for your explainations:
    "Phal = Phalaenopsis
POT = Potinara (which is a hybrid between cattleya, brassavola, laelia, sophronitis)
BC = Brassocattleya (a hybrid between a cattleya and a brassavola)
LC = Laeliocattleya (a hybrid between a cattleya and a laelia)"

    1. I have only done reading on Phals and Cattleyas. I had no clue about the above till I read Tim's reply to my introduction tonight. Do I need to be looking up brassavola, laelia, and sophrontis care and mix the cares to a cattleya for my Cattleya hybrids?

I picked up (7) 4in pots (they are about 1/2 in shorter then the the normal terra cotta 4 in pots) with saucers and a bag of Schultz Orchid Medium Mix.

    2. The Cattleyas are still small plants in 2 in pots. They will be sent dry rooted out of the pot and the grower says to pot in 3-4 inch pots. I noticed that many pots have side holes for air flow. Do you recommend that I dremmel more holes in the bottom and sides? I live in a very dry climate (new Mexico) with very good sun, there is considerable air flow in the house, I think I will be misting in the morning and at night??? They wont be able to go outside and the sun it is so very intense here.

    3. The Phals are in 4 in pots and will also be sent dry rooted out of the pot. The grower recommends a 6 in pot. Dremmel holes?

4.PM me with the perfect fertilizer, amount, and formula for these specific plants. I need BRAND names, cause I'm so lost in the vagueness of not being able to say brand names. I'm too new to know what nicknames you all have for them.

    5. Since I will be using fertilizer...can I use distiled water? I'm so afraid to know what the water is like here in Albuquerque, NM. I have always drank tap water, but I can't even drink it here it smells so bad of chemicals.

I need help here any answers/ suggestions would be wonderful.

    Thank you everyone

Start with the same for all to make it easy Then you can try variations

I would add a couple holes in the bottom of the pots for the catts, the phals you should put some packing peanuts or gravel in the bottom to help with drainage

You can use distilled water, or filtered water from the store. I Use tap water for my plants and they do okay, I do flush the pots out every couple of months will reverse osmosis water to eliminate chemical build up
