Default Vanda not liking it outside?

    Hi everyone!

So it's that time of year, and all of my orchids have gone outside for the spring/summer. The funny thing is, they all seem to be doing great - the Catts are just thriving. However, the only one that seems to have been burnt (despite acclimation) and just isn't doing anything (no new roots, nothing) is my Vanda! I always thought of all the orchids I have, a Vanda would be the one to thrive outdoors but...nature never ceases to amaze me, I guess.

I find it odd that this guy seems to take more a beating from the sun (eastern, only morning) than any other orchid I have. Could it be that this Vanda simply doesn't want the standard intense light that Vanda's are notorious for? It's name is V. Khao Lak x Dr. Anek 'Somri', if anyone can help. I'm kind of scratching my head at this point as to what to do with it. It apparently can't hang with the Catts, but I'm not sure if a windowsill is enough? *le sigh*

i find strap leaved vandas cannot handle the california sun at all, very bright light, but not direct sun. it is also very hard to keep them watered enough... you probably have more humidity though. my cattleya relatives (mostly encyclias) can take much more light. i am in the process of transferring all my vandas to pots. the baskets without any media were making them look like raisins. in a south or maybe western window they can do ok if shaded/lit enough. but when you move them around they do go into shock, where they just don't grow all all, for a few months sometimes. once you find a spot they like, just leave them there and never move them.

Thanks, coeruleo! I kind of figured as much...there seems to be a lot of misconception about Vandas online. "As much sun as you can give them, up to full sun all day" doesn't exactly apply when you live in Texas. Maybe Canada or something, I don't know...but here down south, the strap leaved Vandas seem just as sensitive to burning as my Phals. I think I'll probably move it inside into a Western window and see how it does.
