    Default Sick-Redland Sunset

I have a Redland Sunset and I don't think he's happy. I rescued him from ---- Vendor information removed - see FAQs on Posting ----and have been unsuccessful in finding any information online. He has some new growth but his roots look pretty bad. Many are brown and some have died. I'm worried about rot. Any thoughts?

Looks to be a cattleya type.

They like to dry out completely before getting watered again. It needs to grow new roots I suspect.

I see healthy looking roots on the medium surface. With new growth, new roots should develop also.
Your orchid gets Cattleya culture. It is Rhyncattleanthe (Potinara) Redland Sunset

Shannon, the media looks very soggy. I see some new root growth too. you could watch the health of the rot tip. if there is any deterioration of the new root tips, you could repot it at that time.would suggest you repot it after treating it with a fungicide.

Better check whats going on inside. The medium looks so wet, i worry about over watering causing root rot inside.

the pot is well aerated and it you follow Cattleya culture and allow to almost dry between watering, I would not worry

I've been told it's a bullara. It was originally dubbed Yamadara. Either name returns very little information.
