Regular potting soil? All medium just regular potting soil? Usually it's s big no no. But if yours look that good in tegular potting soil,... That stem looks so healthy and fat, also many big flowers..
i have mostly dendrobiums, mostly in fern and coco husk mix... the orchids i got from tree had soil but that seemed to cause rot,.. there is probably something good about that particular potting soil,.. it's just potting soil dont have much ait circulation ... its very interesting tho,.. thx for sharing mary,..

Nice plants! I have a Phal hybrid that looks a lot like yours, my hybrid grex name is Phal. Wild Turkey (it is in bloom most of the year).

You can leave the Phal in the moss, but be very sure it dries nearly all the way before you water again. Each time you water, that sphagnum should be nearly dry. If you decide to re-pot into bark now, the flowers shoud be fine (Phal hybrids seem quite tolerant to re-potting while in bloom).

The Dendrobium in potting soil - well, I would want to re-pot that before the roots die. Is there any way you can flush the soil out of the pot (into a bucket maybe) without damaging the flowers or making a huge mess at your office? Then, you can put a more appropriate medium around the roots. It looks like there is a plastic inner pot; maybe you can work the roots loose from that plastic pot & remove it, then re-pot.

i brought the dendrobium home. I gently took it out of it's pot and it seems like the roots are happy. Most of them are growing along the outside (close to the pot) which I guess allows them to breathe a little.

I did notice some gnats on it today at the office so I brought it home to treat it. I'm going to keep an eye on it here. So, naturally I needed a flower to replace him at my desk. I found a cute little Phal that is quite unique (well, I've never seen one). white flower with pinks, yellows and orange in the center. Oh, and my monitor when turned off makes for a nice black background.
