    Default My greenhouse plan

I am figuring out the last details of my GH that I will build in a few weeks. I have tried to do a lot of research but all I find are books with generalizations or greenhouse plans for growing "dirt plants". I would like to run my plan by you and see if you can provide any constructive criticism. (couldn't help myself)

I will be building it attached to the house on the east side. It will be 8' x 12'. The roof is an existing corrugated polycarb roof that covers a concrete patio. I will frame it in with pressure treated lumber and build the walls with twin wall polycarb. I will have a gable mounted exhaust fan and intake vents along the floor. It will have 2 ceiling fans with reversible direction to pull hot air up during the summer and keep it down at bench level during the winter. It will also have a squirrel cage fan with the inflatable plastic with holes in the bottom to draw air in on the shaded side and distribute it at head height. I will wire the GH in on its own 20amp circuit and have 4 outlets in the gh. For now it will not be plumbed with water but when I can afford it I will have it plumbed w/ hot and cold water. (That's the one part I can't do myself) It is shaded from late afternoon sun on the north side by a fence. The sun will still hit the roof but will not be direct at bench level. I will install a misting system as soon as the plumbing is done. I will asses the heat/light situation and get shade cloth if necessary, which I don't think it will be. It will be heated by an electric heater with a auto thermostat for the first winter. I did get a backup. By the second winter I hope to be able to afford a gas 'greenhouse' heater.

    What have I forgot?

Gas heaters can be cheap. Email me and I'll send you a link to one I have had for 6 years and it works well.

    Sounds good, Travis.

    Hi Travis!

That sound Great! One question: If this GH is going on an existing pad next to your house, have you planned for drainage away from your home? I don't know if it would be a problem or not.

Living in Arkansas, I cannot imagine a GH without heavy duty shade cloth. It gets so hot here.

You should take photos of it from the start to finish to record your progress. I know as a designer, I would love to see them.
