Cl. Grace Dunn x Cl. rosea...Popular and known to be easy to grow. The colors aren't so bad either.

My first was Cycnodes Wine Delight 'Jem'. Lovely cherry fragrance. Now I'm hooked - 7 out of the 52 orchids I own fall into this grouping.

My first Catasetum was Ctsm. tabulare. I managed to kill it in six or eight months. In my defense, I had no idea what I was dealing with that time.

depends on the color of catasetums that you like....

    brown....go for callosum
    white..pileatum
    green ...expansum, macrogloosum,
and etc..and maybe fore the start, get the FIMBRIATUM, hardy and free flowering,

hybrids of susan fuchs, fimbriatum produces progeny that are easy to care for and with lovely markings and shapes.

and same words to all starters,
1.be sure to recognize the dormant phase of catasetums and their special need during this period
    2. you will rarely kill a catasetum by under watering but most of the time you will kill one by over watering

NEVER TRY WITH A DENTICULATUM AS THE FIRST CATASETUMS

and off course, if you are looking for catasetinae integenerics, the list would expands longer.
