So, back in May our Orchid society rescued a greenhouse full of cattleya orchids. Their owner had died 18 months before, but thanks to an automated greenhouse, the plants had survived until his family was ready to dispose of them. They did all have a good case of scale, which we treated for twice before we sold them to members. I bought a bunch cheaply, and haven't had any problems with scale. Two have bloomed true-to-tag, but looking a bit worse for wear...hopefully next year they will bloom a bit better.
This one bloomed only 1 flower, but of good size (a bit over 6") and decent form...but it is definitely not Cattleya Jose Marti 'Mother's Favorite" (a white) as labelled. Several that other folks got & have bloomed also don't match the labels. So, perhaps Dr. X just didn't put a lot of stock in names...LOL! Anyway, it is pretty, and has a nice, if mild, scent.
Pretty pastel pink!
Still a very nice looking Catt.
you still end up with a pretty bloom
Over time, tags break apart so you only get part of a name, or disappear into a pile. It's a pretty one...
There's a lot of C. loddigesii or C. harrisoniana in this, and some Rl. digbyana obviously, along with C. labiata types. That narrows it down to a few thousand hybrids. The pink is somewhat distinctive though. If several people have come up with mis-matched tags it might be worth comparing notes, see if someone else's tag might fit your plant, at least have a circumstantial match.
Very nice bloom. Love the pastel colour.
Kathi, if you could get a list of the other orchid sold or flowered not to name there may be a slim chance one of those may have the label to yours in it.
I agree Kathi dont mind the name as long as its Pretty, and a bonus mild scent (thought it would be nice to have a proper name...hehehe)
