    Default Cattleya bud question

I have a blooming (or near blooming) size Cattleya that put out two sheaths last summer. The sheaths dried out and I thought it just wasn't quite ready to bloom yet. However, I just looked at it and it looks and feels as if there is a flower bud forming in what I thought was a dead sheath. Do Cattleyas do that, or am I just full of wishful thinking? I'd take a picture, but I don't think it would show what I am looking at - a small fullness at the base of the sheath that blocks light when I hold it up to the window. Is my Bob Betz going to bloom on that growth after all??? I sure hope so!

It has not happened to my catts yet. I have read that they do bloom from the dried-up sheath.

Catts can produce a sheath from new growths that grow & mature out of season. The sheath can then be left budless. If the sheath remains green, even for a few months, buds can still appear. If the sheath dries to yellow/brown it is still possible for buds to come.
Easiest way to check is wait till dark & shine a torch close to one side of the sheath & look on the other, like an Xray, you'll be able to see what's happening.
    Its C. Bob Betts also.

Catts (if mature) always produce a sheath with a new growth. However if it is not their bloom season will not produce buds till then. You can get buds and flowers from dried sheaths.

Thanks! It is clearly a flower bud coming! Sorry I didn't check the exact spelling before I posted.
