    The green tips indicate active growth of the root. And I find anything that shows going forward is good.

    I'll defer to others with more experience than I have on that question. But a great question!

    If those roots are still firm, they might not be dead, just dormant...

    I couldn't find any bad roots, so here are some very nice roots of Bfrenaria when repotted (November) and new tiny roots already finding their way to the pot two and 1/2 months after (February)...

    Roots look ok. can certainly nurture it back. I would mount and give it only rain water till puts out new roots.
