Cool Repotted about 60 new plants today...

So a friend in Oklahoma had to close down her orchid room due to her diminishing health and she asked me to come and get her plants. She had around 60 mixed genera orchids. She and her husband also gave me a heater, lots of pots, bark, and other supplies as they needed out of the orchid growing business. I drove over to get the plants a couple days ago and today I finally had time to repot most of them. I spent about 9 hours in the greenhouse repotting, dividing and cleaning up the plants. My greenhouse is starting to fill back up.

It was a nice day working in the greenhouse repotting and listening to a book on my old ipod. I hope you all had a great day too.

    Cheers,
    BD

That's great that you were able to help someone out and help fill your greenhouse back up. Non orchid people often don't get how relaxing it is to repot and fool around with plants. You will soon have a banana tree to add as well. The family has been out of town but have not forgotten.

Thanks! I actually bought a banana tree that was grown here in my town and survived the winter. We'll see if it survives the cold for me this winter.

Please share some repotting techniques/troubles for us (beginners) to learn. Also can you share when you throw in the towel on a plant? Thanks!

    1. Make sure you have a clean workspace.
    2. Make sure you have clean tags and a pencil and access to the internet for spelling questions (some of these orchid names are hard to spell - lol)
    3. When repotting root bound orchids like oncidiums for example, soak the root mass in a sink of water for several minutes and then begin separating the roots. By the end of the day yesterday I was to the point where I was just cutting the root mass in half and dividing some of the plants (like a cymbidium) instead of being gently. LOL.

If you have specific questions, I'm glad to answer them. haha...Just let me know.

    Cheers,
    BD

60 plants in one day in 9 hours time, it would take me a week to do that many... Now it's time to show us some pictures of now so that in a year we can see just how much they have grown.
