    Default Does rust affect orchids?

I've been working on my greenhouse this summer. Starting with the major task of replacing all the base because it was rotting away, and then adding additional shelving. Needless to say i spent more money that I was planning to, and I'm more of a recycler myself and like to use materials that I have acquired by chance in the past (like when that light bulb comes on and says mmm... I could use this for..., or this could be...). I needed an additional shelf and I happened to come across a wire shelf that "used to" be completely chrome but I guess the previous owner left it out for a while. I have one like it already in the GH and its doing well, very minimal rust, but this one has a little more. My question was the following: Does rust hurt orchids in any way? Since I'm going to have a couple of shelves stacked on over the other, at the time of watering if the rust will be carried by the water in to the orchid pots. Will it cause any serious damage? Any thoughts, past experiences, suggestions, don't care at all? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I think you can paint/seal the rust if possible. I don't think small amount of rust (Iron oxide) is going to affect orchids in a big way.

Thx ksriramkumar . Yeah, I thought about it, but I wold have to brush off as much rust and loose chrome as possible and then paint and even then it may still rust again so...i may just leave them as they are.
